They're not just flag carriers, either. With an honest look at defending flags in Arathi Basin or Gilneas, any good group leader could see the benefit of a tank being healed to full and blowing their defensive cooldowns then spamming aoe moves to keep the flag from being pulled till the rest of that node's defenders can res.

A few notes on gearing, then, for tanking rated Battlegrounds. I doubt that many people are picking a tank main and off talent set. So how do we gear quickly and efficiently for both dps and tanking roles? Pick item slots to swap first that give you the most bang for your buck. I've picked trinkets first. Trinkets offer the largest difference between dps set and tank set stats. Next consult your bonuses from crafting and enchants to find the biggest stat swaps possible. If I'm a jewelcrafter and want to place agility jc gems in my dps set and stam jc gems in my tank set it would be best to place them in the gear that can also have the best enchant difference made. I can place them in a leg item so when I swap dps to tank gem items I also have a dps leg enchant to tank enchant swap as well. I can rock gloves the same way to swap engineering armor to dps enchants as well. Together I can have two trinkets and two items of clothing that between the 4 of them swap a ton of dps to stam and resilience.

Understand your mastery and how to activate it. My druid can take a lot of punishment but if I don't attack I lose out on absorbs and self healing from talents.

Understand where your mitigation works and doesn't. Dodge of parry aren't going to affect casters but resilience will. With base mitigation plus resilience you can hit some outrageous numbers. Recall that you need to face the enemy to dodge, etc as well.

Whatever pieces of gear you add to your swapping of sets are pieces you're going to have to farm twice each season.

Cooldowns that are pure mitigation are best combined with other mitigation cooldowns in play if needed as they compound another well. Some cooldowns are calculated as a percent of health, etc and can be combined with cooldowns that increase health for added benefit by increasing your total health, and thereby the health received by each percentage.
Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.5
WOW Gankstahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01503153061753890959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381998092948001167.post-49598534217156633782010-12-02T12:11:00.000-08:002010-12-02T12:17:16.021-08:00New Battleground Bracketshttp://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/138841/new-battleground-brackets

I'm kind of surprised by this. Quickly, easily, and only in WOW. I know you asked on the tech forums. I knows the answer was go look it up. I know you searched all over. I know some of the suggested solutions are extreme.

Well, we're going to disable the keys you want for WOW, and WOW only, in an easily undone manner.

You've got two choices on this. You can just download the .exe file from here, test it. Once satisfied drag it into your start-up folder so you don't need to launch it by hand every time you start your computer. Do a virus scan on it if you're afraid. Whatever you want to do.

The second choice since you may be really paranoid and such is to search Google for the program "AutoHotKey" and download it, quickly read the tutorial, and copy my script into a text document, save that document as an .ahk file, and use it in that form.

Click Here for the .EXE file

I gotta find a better place to host files, lol. Skip the advertisements, make sure you click the right download button.

If you want to download and write out the script itself, go get AHK (AutoHotKey) install, and open notepad. Enter this:

#ifWinActive World of Warcraft
!F4::return
RWin::return
LWin::return
!TAB::Send {Tab}

Save it as a .ahk file, then double click to open it.

Test either way out. If you dig it, open your start folder and drag the .ahk or .exe file into it and it will start every time you start windows, which is fine since it only affects the Warcraft window.

If you press alt+f4 it does nothing. If you press the right side windows key it does nothing. If you press the left side windows key it does nothing. If you press alt + Tab it presses Tab as normal, since that shouldn't be a big deal, and is normally what you intended.

I'll end up with a ton of these scripts, and compilations and such later. I use them for everything, my personal script is very long. I made this one for you :)

If you have any suggestions for future "Magnificent Macros and Succulent Scripts" Then shoot me an E-mail at WOWGankstaBlog@gmail.comWOW Gankstahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01503153061753890959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381998092948001167.post-76156850303994906302010-11-22T12:10:00.000-08:002010-11-23T13:20:24.645-08:00OP!nion: Nerf me hard, Nerf me fast.OP!nion was just going to be the title for this post, but I think I like it and will keep it for all my obnoxious opinion posts.

Today I wonder about why people like being overpowered. I hate it. It worries me when my characters are overpowered. It's a big storm cloud looming overhead threatening of sleet and lightening.

The way underpowered characters are leveled out seems to usually be a lot nicer than the way overpowered characters are. Never-mind that being buffed always feels better than being nerfed. Nerfs just seem to affect my game more.

That is to say that when my Warlock's dps was low, I had my way to dps. When I got buffed I did the same thing and did more damage. I didn't feel different, I didn't have to play differently, I just did what I did and did more damage.

Now when I've been nerfed it's a whole other story. I've lost entire moves to the nerf bat, and that, my friends, affects play-style in a whole other manner. It feels terrible to lose something, especially if you have to alter how you play. What if it makes your character feel less cool? What if it takes you on a trip that eventually kills what you loved about the class?

Anyways, one of my characters feels overpowered in one spec. I'm not excited. I'm not happy, and I don't beat on others then tell them to learn to play and that I'm balanced. I wont say what class it is, because I don't want the replies that it's fine. I'm utterly destroying people.

Instead I'm afraid because they changed a lot already, and I'm going to level my other characters to 85 in Cataclysm first and see if they're more balanced at 85 or how they get balanced, rather than level them and then be nerfed in a way that makes me dislike the character.

So why do people like being over powered? Why do they level another toon on the class they think is newly overpowered? You're gonna get nerfed, you're going to cry, and you're going to have to start over or completely re-learn how to play the class. How annoying.WOW Gankstahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01503153061753890959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381998092948001167.post-31911369726004040382010-11-21T16:30:00.000-08:002010-11-19T10:33:27.600-08:00Magnificent Macros and Succulent Scripts: the rearview mirror
I've never seen this script used outside of an old Mage exploit. It can no longer be used to turn your character while holding down auto run or to blink. However it has some nifty uses in game.

What this will do is turn your camera around to look behind you. You can continue to run forward while looking behind you, and simply tap it again to go back to your normal view.

/run FlipCameraYaw(180)

I've used this off and on for some time now. It's extremely useful on my lock bound to / next to my auto run. I can see behind me and cast dots as I run and slow down my enemies. I've used it on other toons for many things from targeting to spin around and attack to range checks to see if I have time for a heal, and of course the very basic usefulness of a nice instant glance behind me.

Similar effects can be gotten through the standard camera setup in game, but you may experience changes of follow angle and camera movement animations. Both Alliance and Horde locations will be covered. Through research, gameplay, (and hopefully some user submissions) I intend to create a map notes set for an addon to be added to and taken from to help everyone in PVP.

Today we're covering a place in the Alliance city of Stormwind most allies have not even been to. It serves well as a summoning spot to get your raid up, as well as a good place to fight once you have checked it out a bit.

Coordinates: Stormwind, Cathedral of Light: 50,42

These are the coordinates of the center of the bottom room of the basement.

To get there enter the Cathedral of Light and head straight in. In the back right hand corner of the room you have entered is a tiny hallway then a spiral staircase downward. Continue into a room with an NPC in it (Brother Crowley), and in the back right of that is another staircase downward. At the bottom of this staircase turn right, as the right side goes deeper downward, the left side is still a swell spot. If you go right, at the end of the next room is another staircase to your left to go even deeper.

Here you can summon, eat, drink, and be merry with no interruptions as far as I've experienced. There are good hiding places throughout this basement, and many places for warlocks to place teleport. You can place it in the left side basement and port there from the first part of the right side basement. There are tiny inlets in the walls to be stealthed in.

In practice for actually battling here, fighting on one of the other floors and having a place to run back to and regroup deeper within the basement works very well. Once everyone knows where to head to re-group, you can simply state retreat is necessary and get back there for food and drink or heals, perhaps an innervate.

Good fighting locations are by Brother Crowley if you can lure people there, with good, fast, LOS at the stairs. Also, in the tiny hallway up top right above the spiral staircase. You can also fight in front, but there is more likelihood of a failed attempt to get to safety.

You can check this out on a new alliance toon and get to know the place, or run in late night on your 80, or go in with a group of pals.

Many, many, more locations to come soon.
WOW Gankstahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01503153061753890959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381998092948001167.post-84388919630765579412010-11-18T16:32:00.000-08:002010-11-19T10:35:20.622-08:00Insanely Easy WOW Macro Guide: IntroductionCan't make a macro, eh? Your macros come from random web pages and internet searches and do kinda what you want, but not exactly? You receive errors sometimes when tapping your macro? You lose CDs or global CDs because your macro does extra "Bonus" stuff when you don't mean for it to? If it fails to do what you like it automatically casts on your target's target, or your target's target's target and other random garbage?

Don't cry, emo kid, I'm here to help. You're going to make macros that do what you want, exactly, not what anyone else decided or designed. I'm as convinced you can follow and excel at my macro making method as the fat guy at 7-11 who refuses to bathe is convinced the moon landing didn't happen.

Introduction
Page 2: You're going to make a macro, part 1
Page 3: You're going to make a macro, part 2
Page 4: You're not going to make a macro: Basic Macro Theory
Page 5: Basic Macro Commands list

Read on

The Intro:

This guide is for people who do not yet make their own macros. The songs were songs I didn't know, so I couldn't tell when they sounded right. They weren't songs I wanted to play, or a style I liked so I played them wrong not understanding their intended style... I quit.

Later I taught myself guitar very quickly by learning songs I did like. I was able to look at the chords and scales, and now knowing their intent as I loved the song, excelled at writing my own music and playing the songs of others.

I taught many people later how to play by using similar methods. They stayed interested and understood what they learned because they related to it and got results.

I similarly learned how to make macros by taking the macros of others and dissecting them, taking what I liked and ditching what I didn't till I had my own style and set of macros. This used to take a while to experiment with in-game.

The Lesson Plan:

Now there is an exciting tool made that online explains a macro you copy and paste into it, highlights it's parts, and points out errors. As this is much faster and explanatory than doing it in-game, I've taught my pals to make macros by using this tool.

We're going to take macros we find online, and utilize this new tool to recognize their parts, and edit them to our own means. We will start out with full pictures and steps, then back off on the pictures quickly, leaving you to simply follow along. Then we'll work with before and after effects of macros I've altered in the past, with you observing the parts and changes made.

The final parts will be to let you know what other command line parts exist so you can experiment with them, what are some good and bad macro habits, what they can and cannot do, and then a list of places to get macros to hack apart to your own ends.

By the end you will be able to make anything you want, without a doubt. You may be far enough along to make them from scratch on your own; you will absolutely be ready to find a similar macro and alter it to your own means.

I do not want this to become a macro warehouse. Nor do I intend to make sure a the macros we make are as clean as they could be. We're looking for getting people making functional macros now, on their own. There will most likely be a more advanced tutorial later on the major theory and cleaning up macros to perfect and small. If you have an incredible macro you want to share please send it to me and perhaps we'll post it up in our awesome macros column : 'Magnificent Macros and Succulent Scripts'. Please be kind in the comments and only try to make this better. I want nothing but for people to get done what they want to do.

Welcome to the tutorial, have fun, you're about to make a macro.

Introduction
Page 2: You're going to make a macro, part 1

Page 3: You're going to make a macro, part 2
Page 4: You're not going to make a macro: Basic Macro Theory

Page 5: Basic Macro Commands listWOW Gankstahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01503153061753890959noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381998092948001167.post-66990965465048186392010-11-18T16:31:00.000-08:002010-11-19T10:30:13.270-08:00Insanely Easy WOW Macro Guide page 2: You're going to make a macro, part 1This is part 2 of the macro guide. You will follow along and get a full understanding of how your new awesome tool works while learning about basic macro editing.

Read on.

We're going to be using the explain-o-matic to make the edits, functions, and parts of a macro very apparent to you. I believe the use of this tool will expedite your lessons, and be a very useful tool in the future. So please follow along and use it.

http://www.macroexplain.com/

For now open the explain-o-matic in a separate window or tab depending on your browser and personal preference.

I'm going to start out by browsing a macro at http://wowmacroswiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page that sounds useful in a random class page, then we're going to use the explain-o-matic to make the macro our own.

This is you: "wait, this macro guide isn't going to have me in game opening /m and teaching me to make my first macro to pointlessly say "hello world" while I stare at commands I don't understand then give up because I can't separate the parts or what I'm trying to make is impossible?"

Me: No, this guide isn't going to do that

Alright, so I went to the priest macros to grab an example and found:

#showtooltip Dispel Magic
/cast [target=mouseover, exists] Dispel Magic; Dispel Magic

Now:

1. Take a moment to recognize what parts of the macro are where when highlighted, as this is what will be teaching you much of what we do as we change things around.

Now, what I want to do with this macro is make it into a cat druid macro. I can be, say, chomping down on a delicious flag carrier and notice he's being healed by some clown and want to slow that healer down quickly and perhaps rocket boot back to the flag carrier if he's close to death with my pals on him, or the opposite of chomping on the healer but the flag carrier is about to enter tunnel in WSG.

First thing is first, I want the tooltip to be for Feral Charge - Cat.

To make this edit, mouseover the dispel magic on the explain side of the explain-o-matic in the row that explains the show tooltip. It also shows the tooltip for Feral Charge - Cat so our button looks normal and we can see it's cooldown easily.

Normally we'd be at a good testing stage, but this particular macro is kinda sloppy, so it's a good time to learn about conditionals to add to make it a bit more intelligent. If you are in a battleground and have a target, but your mouse is resting over your good pal healyMchealsalot, this macro will try to feral charge healyMchealsalot and give an error. If your mouse was over a corpse it would give an error as well. Let's fix it up.

You can see that this macro already has a condition to it, "exists", meaning it only tries to cast it on the mouseover target if a mouseover target exists. However, we only want to try to attempt to cast Feral Charge - Cat on enemies that aren't dead. This way if we haven't moused over a living enemy target it casts it on our target, which is probably our intent.

Mouseover "exists" in the explanation to highlight where it is.

Where you see [target=mouseover, exists], you can add commas and more conditions to the macro for the mouseover portion. [target=mouseover, exists, nodead, harm] makes it so it only casts on mouseover if the mouseover is an enemy: harm, and the enemy is alive: nodead. This will skip the random errors and truly let us use this macro as intended.

You can see where we've added ",nodead, harm"

Edit that in, hit explain, and read the explanation, pretty sweet, right? Now we can replace our normal feral charge button on our cat bar with this macro, as it wont accidentally give errors or cast in a way we did not intend. I'll go over how to copy paste the macros into game later on so this part doesn't get too bloated.

This is our final macro, after hitting explain, check out our explanation.

You just learned a few things. exists, harm, and nodead are conditionals. Later we'll cover the many more choices you have to use to make your macros intelligent and never fail... or succeed in wasting your moves.
You also learned a command, /cast. Clearly it works for things you wouldn't actually consider "casting" per say. You also just played with a parameter, target=mouseover. There are many more choices for commands, parameters, and conditionals. We're doing well so far, by the end you will be able to identify all parts on your own or with the explain-o-matic, and either make any macro you like intelligent to do exactly what you want, or take that decision into your own hands. I bet you're getting the hang of the explain-o-matic as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Lets say I didn't dig on the idea of having the fact that I happen to be moused over a certain target decide for me to cast on that particular target. Let's pretend for a second that I'm a keyboard turner and the idea of my mouse over random things frightens and annoys me. Let's continue with our macro from before, and allow me to physically make the decision to cast on a mouseover with what we call a modifier key. Let's pretend we just found our macro we just made on the internet and want to hack it up a little more than the last one.

Right now we have:
#showtooltip Feral Charge - Cat
/cast [target=mouseover,exists,nodead,harm]Feral Charge - Cat;Feral Charge - Cat

What we currently have

First, I'm making the decisions here on this macro. So we can ditch the previous conditionals. Mouse over them in the explain side and identify them, and delete them. Then hit explain. They are: exists, nodead, and harm.

#showtooltip Feral Charge - Cat
/cast [target=mouseover]Feral Charge - Cat;Feral Charge - Cat

Now we need to tell it when it is allowed to do that first function set, of casting on mouseover rather than my target. What we do is add Mod;alt to the mix inside the brackets. If you are unsure where in the macro the new info needs to be, mouseover the portion of the macro that needs the info added to it to see it's script.

Adding in mod:alt to the mix, separated by a comma as with other conditionals

#showtooltip Feral Charge - Cat
/cast [mod:alt,target=mouseover]Feral Charge - Cat;Feral Charge - Cat

My mod is alt, hit explain and check that action out. Other possible modifiers are shift and ctrl.

This tutorial suggests you just find a modifier key macro and paste it in to work from there, but this particular example works to show you how we can use mod keys as part of the conditional and parameter portion of a macro.

----------------------------------------------------------

Now that we're on mod keys, let's try to use mod keys to swap between spells, rather than targets.

#showtooltip
/cast [modifier:alt] Incinerate; Immolate

Paste that into the explain-o-matic. You'll see when the alt key is held down it casts incinerate, when no mod is held it casts immolate.

The macro as it is now

It also shows the tooltip on your bar of whatever is about to be cast, meaning if you hold alt it shows incinerate, and if you have no modifier held down, it shows immolate. Personally that's extremely sloppy for me, I like to watch my cooldowns, and immolate has no cooldown, so why would I want to normally watch the spell with no cooldown's tooltip? This person must have a cooldown addon. But we're not going to use it for that anyways, so we'll cover fixing those things later. Right now I'm placing my rocket boots on my keyboard and want to ditch drain mana, let's say. I'd like to place drain mana under drain life, they are closely related, it sounds like a good organizational move to me.

Well, this is crazy easy, isn't it? I want when I press alt modifier to cast drain mana, and drain life when I press no modifier.

Explain-o-matic says:
If you were holding the alt key then: Cast Incinerate on the currently targeted unit

Well, I'm gonna replace incinerate with drain mana, since that's what I want to cast on alt press.

Then explain-o-matic says:
Otherwise:
Cast Immolate on the currently targeted unit

So I'm going to replace immolate with drain life, since drain life is what I'd like to cast normally, with no modifier. We end up with:

#showtooltip
/cast [modifier:alt]drain mana;drain life

The final macro explained

We also end up with a free button on my keypad for my rocket boots, and all is right with the world.

We started out having pictures for every tiny step, and they're slowly disappearing, wtf? Yes, yes we have. I think you're getting the hang of the explain-o-matic by now. I want you to follow along with it for every example for the next two parts, if you'd be so kind. Remember that for most mistakes the explain-o-matic will pop up with a yellow question mark by the error. Also remember you can easily find the areas you want to work on in a macro by mousing over their part of the explanation.

We've learned a lot already. We can now use modifier keys to have 2 spells on one key, we can have a macro choose our target for us if a mouseover exists, and we can tell a macro the target we want by physically pressing a modifier key.

Next I'm going to fix up some macros I've found for use with my characters. It should be relatively fast for me, please follow along with the explain-o-matic. Then we'll cover the library of available commands, conditionals and parameters and what not to do. Then you're making your own! That is if you haven't already had an idea and made one already.

Introduction
Page 2: You're going to make a macro, part 1

Page 3: You're going to make a macro, part 2
Page 4: You're not going to make a macro: Basic Macro Theory

Page 5: Basic Macro Commands listWOW Gankstahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01503153061753890959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381998092948001167.post-60895077963567067592010-11-18T16:30:00.000-08:002010-11-19T10:29:58.296-08:00Insanely Easy WOW Macro Guide page 3: You're going to make a macro, part 2This is part 3 of the tutorial, if you haven't already, start out at the intro :)

Introduction
Page 2: You're going to make a macro, part 1
Page 3: You're going to make a macro, part 2
Page 4: You're not going to make a macro: Basic Macro Theory
Page 5: Basic Macro Commands list

Or, read on.

At this point the photo part of the tutorial is gone. Follow along as I hack up some of my warlock macros, using the explain-o-matic. Listen to the reasons, and watch how the macros evolve. Then I'll rock some basic examples to copy paste into the explain-o-matic just for you to dissect and check out.

--Soulburn Smart Summoning

Will use Soulburn to summon your felguard only if you are in combat, otherwise it will summon regularly.

#showtooltip Summon Felguard
/cast [combat] Soulburn

/cast Summon Felguard

This does what is says above. I used the Fel Domination version of this before. Now let's make it "work for you". Let's take a look at the things we can change to make it yours, and make it act like you wish. Summon felguard can be changed to summon succubus, summon felhunter, etc. for the pet you want. That's one edit we can plainly see.

#showtooltip Summon Felhunter
/cast [combat] Soulburn

/cast Summon Felhunter

Another is [combat] which is a condition in which the macro is modified to also cast the instant cast, no global cooldown, spell of Soulburn. I may now want to use it more often when running and hiding around a wall, etc. So let's make that decision ours instead of the game's. Replacing [combat] as a situational to [mod:alt] makes this macro ignore whether I am in combat or not, and allows me to decide by holding alt when I hit my macro when to use the cooldown.

#showtooltip Summon Felhunter
/cast [mod:alt] Soulburn

/cast Summon Felhunter

Sweet. What else do I want this macro to do for me? Well, It'd be nice to know the cooldown situation of Soulburn before I hop back into the fray of combat, wouldn't it? #showtooltip Summon Felhunter replaced with #showtooltip Soulburn lets me see the CD of Soulburn rather than the icon for felhunter.

#showtooltip Soulburn

/cast [mod:alt] Soulburn

/cast Summon Felhunter

This is a pretty hot looking macro for what I want, now. I can only think of one thing to make it better. I'd like to be able to tap the button again to add soul link to the mix. /cast can be replaced with /castsequence to allow me to add spells that will be cast after the first set, with a second tap of the macro. Note how they are separated by a comma and space, also note that in this instance the spell cannot be added in with simply another /cast line, as the macro would fail due to the global cooldown. After the global cooldown I'll simply tap the macro again to cast soul link.

#showtooltip Soulburn
/cast [mod:alt] Soulburn

/castsequence Summon Felhunter, soul link

Only one problem now, I may get stun locked and totally messed up after hitting the macro either with the Soulburn or without, and this would leave me on soul link with no pet to link to next time I tapped it. A minor issue for sure, but 2 taps instead of one and having to be aware of such things in battle can cause death. So if I want my macro to make this many decisions for me, I better make it just a little smarter. Or, of course, I could decide to cast soul link on my own. But macros have the ability to reset themselves on variable changes, etc. if you tell them to. They can reset when you change target, etc. In this case I think I want 20 seconds to cast soul link, after which the macro will reset. If I'm in a situation where I can't soul link within 20 seconds I think I'm out of luck anyways.

#showtooltip Soulburn
/cast [mod:alt] Soulburn

/castsequence reset=20 Summon Felhunter, soul link

There, I think we've taken this popular macro and adjusted it to my own needs and wants. I hope you can follow that well enough, but that I'm also not sounding like a teacher that thinks you're slow, lol.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Playing with that action and the reset has me thinking about another macro I have used in the past.

#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=120 Fel Healthstone, Runic Healing Potion

This macro served me well long ago to use my healthstone, and if it was already used, within the 2 minute CD use a health pot instead. In this instance with show tooltip with nothing written after it, it swaps to my next cast item/spell. So after I use my health stone it will display my health pot, and I'll know what I'm on. But now I have a few changes to make, and updates. I want to use alt on the same macro to make a new healthstone.

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:alt] Create Healthstone
/castsequence reset=120 Fel Healthstone, Runic Healing Potion

Above the cast sequence we now have a mod situation that when I hold alt is activated, and I create a new healthstone. Now I'm going to decide between 2 things. Is it more helpful that I make a new stone and that resets the macro, even if my cooldown on it isn't up, or that my macro reset even when I have no new healthstone to use. I used to survive a lot less, and it was less of an issue, lol. But I believe that there are few situations in which I'm ready to make a new healthstone but not ready to deal with the CD. Therefor I'm going to try out making the reset depend on the macro being tapped with the same mod that making a new healthstone uses. By using the same modifier key to trigger both events my macro kind of decided on the reset while I use what I'd be doing anyways to make a new healthstone. However, to keep the decisions mine, in case of the extremely unusual circumstance that I make a new healthstone before my CD is up, I've decided I want to only monitor my healthstone icon, to decide when to make a new one, as well. Which is lucky, as the way I set up my alt reset would have canceled the other display anyways. The alternative and multiple cast sequences on one macro with modifiers is a little too much for this tutorial.

#showtooltip Fel Healthstone
/cast [mod:alt] Create Healthstone
/castsequence reset=alt Fel Healthstone, Runic Healing Potion

Truth is I have healing injectors thanks to the new engineering buff to their healing when used by engineers, but I want to keep this understandable for everyone. Now when I use alt to create a new healthstone my macro also uses that alt to reset itself. If I felt like it I could mod this macro further to either give it a different reset and have it use whichever happened first, a different mod, or the 120 seconds. Or I could create another modifier command that used health pot for when my health stone was on CD but I had already reset the macro by creating another. Like I said this really never happens, so I believe I'll leave it like this until I feel like it needs more work, by trying it out and seeing if it ever gets me killed, :)

------------------------------------------------------

Here are a few macros to copy paste into the explain-o-matic and just check out to get some more ideas going.

/cast [nochanneling: Drain Life] Drain Life

#showtooltip Demonic Circle: Teleport
/cast [mod:alt] Demonic Circle: Summon; [nomod] Demonic Circle: Teleport;

#showtooltip Devour Magic
/cast [modifier:alt, pet:Felhunter] Devour Magic; [pet:Felhunter, target=player] Devour Magic

/petattack [target=mouseover]

/castsequence [target=mouseover] Corruption, Curse of Agony

/stopcasting/cast Earth Shock

/cast [nomodifier:alt] Lightning Shield; Water Shield

#showtooltip/stopcasting/cast [stance][combat,nomounted] Ghost Wolf;/dismount [mounted]

#showtooltip/cast [modifier] Revive Pet; [pet=dead] Revive Pet; [nopet] Call Pet; Mend Pet

Browse some more macros now if you like:

http://wowmacroswiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

You've got one more page of me before I suggest you try some of your own.

Introduction
Page 2: You're going to make a macro, part 1

Page 3: You're going to make a macro, part 2
Page 4: You're not going to make a macro: Basic Macro Theory

Page 5: Basic Macro Commands listWOW Gankstahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01503153061753890959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381998092948001167.post-41895080036452916052010-11-18T16:29:00.000-08:002010-11-19T10:29:22.839-08:00Insanely Easy WOW Macro Guide page 4: You're NOT going to make a macro: Macro theoryAwe, the posts seemed so cheerful till now, we were going to make a macro, we were learning so much. But I have to play Debbie Downer and tell you what is impossible, and what I simply suggest you don't make.

This is page 4 of the guide, if you haven't started at the intro, do so now, otherwise, read on.

Introduction
Page 2: You're going to make a macro, part 1
Page 3: You're going to make a macro, part 2
Page 4: You're not going to make a macro: Basic Macro Theory
Page 5: Basic Macro Commands list

Read on

Make your macros yours. It's an opinion, my opinion to be exact. A quick internet search for "WOW Macros" will send you on a long glorious trip through 1412353466 macros, many seemingly made just for the sake of making macros, some quite useful. Anything with 'one button' in the title I'm usually not a huge fan of. I'd still browse the heck out of the macros online, but I'd consider it window shopping. One could easily re-post the ridiculous amount of macros easily found online and get responses varying from "epic thread" to "...... ok, so how do I _______"

I don't want my macros to make decisions for me, usually. Some were a help as I first hit 80 and not so much now as I am capable of quickly making decisions for myself. Ask yourself "is this fancy, or is it what I need?" and also "is this very convenient sometimes, but other times will get me killed?". For example, there are many spammable dispel macros that can dispel off you, if nothing on you then your target, if nothing on them then your target's target, etc. That was darling before I learned what needed to be dispelled and what was less of a threat. A lot of good it does me to dispel off my target's target's target when I was trying to dispel an immolate cast off of my pal, triggering the global cooldown, and getting him crit to death. Why do it when I can choose on my own when I dispel and whom? For another example, there are many dot casting sequence macros, that's a blast untill a spell gets dispelled, resisted, or misses. Then you have to recast all of them to get that one back on them, for a waste of mana, tick overwrites, and wasted time.

What I'm going to want from you is a promise that you wont make terrible macros. The best macros are YOUR macros. Don't let the internet or me strong arm you into using dumb macros that don't fit with your play style.

"What can't macros do?" I'm glad you asked, pretend person I'm conversing with for the purpose of a segue.

Macros can't cast multiple spells at once that have global cooldowns. You will have to /castsequence or otherwise set up the macro and tap it multiple times. I usually don't like these macros anyways.

Macros can't target your aoe for you, it's sad, but there is no "center my aoe on my target" command.

Macros cannot perform actions and then wait to perform other actions without a further button press. In fact, they don't seem to be able to even delay a chat message anymore, which is sad as I used that for some cooldown reporting action.

Also, one of the most common requests for a macro is "I want a macro that will swap from my target to me, then cast _______ on me, then re-target my target." That's actually possible, but you simply don't want to do it. Don't over complicate things. That macro should simply be a /cast [target=player] your spell... type of thing, macros can cast on other targets without actually changing target, like our mouseover macro from earlier, it didn't change our target to the mouseover.

With that basic knowledge and what you've learned so far, you can open the next part of the tutorial, which has a command, conditional, etc. library and make what you like. I'm confident you're already prepared to make most of what you want to make. I can tell you that there are no macros I want to make for myself that I have been unable to. Browse through the macros you find, anything that looks interesting to you from now on you can paste into the explain-o-matic and dissect it. Then swap out it's identifiable parts to make it behave as you wish. Later I'm going to teach you how to micro manage your macros, how to get rid of unnecessary script pieces, advanced commands and techniques, and some fancy mouse script action that will save you a bundle on your car insurance... or at least a gaming mouse.

For now you are ready to edit macros and make your own stuff out of them. Don't worry about how pretty the final product is, just focus on getting them working as you intend.

To get your macros in game, type /m and hit enter, choose whether the macro is for all your characters or that specific one. Hit new, and copy paste what you've created in there after giving it a name.

Enjoy.

Introduction
Page 2: You're going to make a macro, part 1

Page 3: You're going to make a macro, part 2
Page 4: You're not going to make a macro: Basic Macro Theory

Page 5: Basic Macro Commands listWOW Gankstahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01503153061753890959noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5381998092948001167.post-5818104248590019522010-11-18T16:28:00.000-08:002010-11-19T10:29:06.281-08:00Insanely Easy WOW Macro Guide page 5: Basic macro commands libraryThis is page 5 of the Macro guide, read the other pages first:

Introduction
Page 2: You're going to make a macro, part 1
Page 3: You're going to make a macro, part 2
Page 4: You're not going to make a macro: Basic Macro Theory
Page 5: Basic Macro Commands list

Or, read on

I'm going to use the wow300 links for these in case you want to learn more about each. However, for your beginner use you can usually simply find a macro that sounds ok, and edit in or write over what is has with these. Remember conditions can be added with commas separating them, and adding no to the condition checks the opposite. Commands want their own lines, so start a new line to add one. Mod keys are ctrl, alt, and shift. Remember if you have a pet that ctrl might screw you as a mod when used with number keys, as you most likely have pet binds there.

Commands:
<div class="syn-box"
